I knew as soon as this thread started the disapproving purists would be here to sound their disapproval. The fact is that out of over 1708 E36 Alpina's made, only 221 were B8's, and like E30 M3's and E30 B6 3.5S their prices have risen so high that it is in fact cheaper and easier to build your own rather than wait around for one to come up for sale at an interstellar price.
So someone wants to build a B8 because none are for sale or those that are are priced beyond the means of mortal man; others over the years have posted of their B11, B12 and B6 3.5S 'homages' and received some praise for wanting a rare model and having to build their own. Give the guy a break just because his pockets aren't as deep as yours and his aspirations extend to the rare and almost unobtainable of Alpina models.
It won't be a genuine Alpina, much like other rebuilds, but it will be one guys best efforts at making a car that he could never hope to obtain through his very best efforts. Just some wise council on not attempting to convice people it's genuine is enough and then hope that through encouragement he will make the car as accurate as possible.
